Théâtre Equestre Zingaro In Paris France

You will find a very unique performance at the Théâtre Equestre Zingaro as it combines talented performers with horses for a very unusual equestrian display that incorporates the human and horse together with expertly choreographed dance, music, and acrobatics.

It was in the 1980's that theatre once again became a more popular avenue of entertainment within France and Bartabas, who was a highly skilled horseman and actor, decided to bring together a group to perform in a very different and unique kind of theatre show.

Théâtre Equestre Zingaro In Paris France

The group was formed in 1984 and was named after the horse owned by Bartabas, called Zingaro, who was his beloved companion for approximately twenty years and their first production was called Cabaret Equestre.

The performance was extravagant with a mass of colour from dancers, actors, and musicians and of course the horses that formed the integral part of the performance, and the show was a huge hit with the French people.

The Zingaro group, which consisted of actors, dancers and technicians settled in the area that lies to the North of Paris in the town of Aubervilliers, which became the home for all participating members of the Théâtre Equestre Zingaro in 1989.  That also included the highly trained and skilful horses and it is like a little village itself, as the members of the group all live, work and perform together, but are there with their families as well.

There are absolutely beautiful stables that hold the groups thirty plus horses, which receive round the clock care and the horses have names of great artists such as Nijinsky and Picasso.  Yet the Zingaro horses are not chosen for their breed, but for their spirit and personalities.

And as for the performers, these are not professional circus people.  Bartabas searches all over the world for performers who interest him with unusual talents, as they are horsemen, horsewomen, dancers, musicians, etc and all actively pursue this ruggedly romantic, natural lifestyle.

However, as the popularity of these shows grew throughout France, Bartabas and the Zingaro group started expanding and providing performances all over Europe and then in America in the 1990's and the Théâtre Equestre Zingaro has gone a long way from being just a typical French theatre group and is now internationally known and acclaimed.

The unique style, combined with the quickness of the movements and the flow of the entire performance with the choreography and music is incredible and many just cannot even pick out the words that really give the show justice, as most people come away in utter amazement, awe and appreciation of the hard work and dedication from all the performers.

Although they travel and provide incredible performances in many countries, they are also in their home town at certain times every year, so that the Parisians and tourist to Paris along with other parts of France can still get to enjoy the fantastic spectacle that has still not lost its appeal.

But Bartabas has since started an Equestrian Academy at the historical Stables at the Chateau de Versailles, where people can study and learn the art of dressage and other equestrian skills with shows and performances. So if you cannot get to see the Théâtre Equestre Zingaro, then you may be able to get to see a show at the Académie du Spectacle Equestre instead.

Obviously, because of the high regard people have for Bartabas and the equestrian performances, you would need to make reservations.
