Cafe Constant In Paris

The Cafe Constant is owned and run by Christian Constant, who was originally a chef at the luxury hotel Crillon and along with his wife Catherine, they took this over in 2003 when the previous owner Madame Irene retired.

With the small wooden tables and a Formica bar as you enter on the ground floor, it looks like a typical cafe that is open for breakfasts lunches and dinners, but the food is far from what you would expect in a cafe, as the quality is more like that of a restaurant.

Cafe Constant In Paris

There is also a smaller dining room upstairs as well, and exceedingly popular with the locals the Cafe Constant takes pride in its efficient service, quick turnover, and a very well prepared simple traditional French cuisine for a reasonable price.

Considering it is located within an expensive area of Paris, situated in the 7th Arrondissement not far from the Eiffel Tower and the Musée D'Orsay, you can have a three course meal for only around 33€.

You do not get fancy menus handed to you like you would at many restaurants in Paris, but everything available that day is written up on an old fashioned blackboard, with each course having a fixed price, and the dishes available vary dependant upon the seasons and what produce is available.

Some items you may see on the menu include a terrine of pork and foie gras with lentils in vinaigrette, quenelles of whitefish, beef tartare, profiteroles, etc and they serve wine by the glass, bottle and carafe.

The bistro type food with some of the traditional recipes from Christian Constant's Grandmother has become so popular with the locals for bringing back their childhood memories, that you may have to wait at the bar prior to getting a seat, but it is well worth it and you will not be disappointed.

Christian and Catherine Constant also own and run Le Violon d'Ingres bistro and Les Cocottes, which are both situated on the same street as the Cafe Constant!

Cafe & Restaurant Guide Key Points

The Cafe Constant is open on a Tuesday through to a Saturday for breakfast from 8.30am, from noon until 2.30pm for lunch and from 7pm until 10.30pm for dinner.

They are closed on a Sunday and Monday.

They do not take reservations for under five people, so it is advisable to get there early for either lunch or dinner as it becomes very busy.

The cost for a starter is approximately 11€ with a main course being around 15€ and a dessert costing around 7€.  A glass of wine starts at around 3.50€ plus they also serve draft beers.

But they also serve things such as coffee and croissants at breakfast time.

There is no particular dress code and Cafe Constant is suitable for all the family with a very friendly atmosphere.
