Although the decor inside makes you feel like you are near to the
seaside and maybe the shores of Brittany rather than in Paris, they also have a terrace that is secluded from
the street by greenery and there are beautiful window boxes full of flowers, which makes
it a very pleasant place to enjoy your meal on a sunny day.
Situated very close to the River Seine and only a short
walk from the Palais de Tokyo, also the Petit Palais which is in the opposite direction,
then you have the Avenue des Champs Elysees
in another direction and also within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, this is a very upmarket area that has
classy restaurants and clientele to match, which is what you can expect from the Marius et
Janette.
However, the owners have also opened up a bistro
in Paris called Le Bistrot de Marius
that is on the same street, yet does not have the same price tags as a top Paris restaurant, even though you will still find
excellent quality seafood here as well.
But getting back to the Marius et Janette, you will find the freshest produce available
for your gourmet meal with an extensive choice of oysters including the rare Colchester or
Zeeland varieties and the prized Belons from the Brittany shores. But other items on
the menu includes such delicacies as steamed langoustines, pan fried cuttlefish Provencale
style, fresh crab, whole grilled sea bass, which appears to be one of their most popular
dishes, lobster, Saint-Pierre with spinach, brill roasted with asparagus or fried whiting
presented in a tartare sauce.
Restaurant Guide Key Points
This gourmet restaurant in Paris is open
every day for lunch from noon until 2.30pm and from 7.30pm through to 10.30pm for dinner.
The Marius et Janette provides a set lunch menu option for approximately 46 that
includes a starter and a main course or a main course dessert.
With the A la Carte menu, the average cost for a starter is 30 and the cost for a
main course is 44 upward to over 62, but do take note that the wines served are very good yet pricey, with most being well
over 70.
The dress code is smart casual, yet upscale chic and reservations are highly recommended,
although it would be an idea to check your reservations prior to arrival, because even
though the staff are very good and friendly, people have reported mix ups in their
reservations in the past!
The Marius et Janette is a reasonably small place that manages to seat around seventy
people at a serving, and is therefore great for a meal out with friends or family, rather
than a very quiet, romantic dinner for two.
The nearest Metro station is the Alma Marceau
